Hero's Journey

The hero's journey is exactly that. The protagonist embarks on a journey, a pursuit, a quest, a vendetta even. Most crime movies involve a hero’s journey where a detective is on a quest to discover the perpetrator of a crime and bring criminals to justice. The word ‘Hero’ should however not be confused with ‘good or moral.’ Many heroes have been known to employ illegal or immoral means to further their quest.

The 2002 movie "Catch Me If You Can' starring Leonardo DiCaprio is the story of an 18 year-old who worked as a doctor, a lawyer, and as a co-pilot for a major airline -- all before his 18th birthday and at the age of 17, Frank Abagnale, Jr. became the most successful bank robber in the history of the U.S. FBI Agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) makes it his prime mission to capture Frank and bring him to justice, but Frank is always one step ahead of him. 'Catch Me If You Can' depicts Hanratty's quest to the elusive Abagnale and culminates at the conclusion of the movie.

The Dark Knight is another example of the hero's journey where Batman battles a vile young criminal calling himself the Joker who has thrown Gotham into chaos and the caped Crusader begins to tread a fine line between heroism and vigilantism.
